Drakomunda by Guy Quartley is a dark and thrilling journey that took me deep into a world of apocalyptic landscapes and mystical intrigue. Quartley’s vivid storytelling had me hooked from the start, as I followed the protagonist’s harrowing journey from the dry city of Kul to the haunting port of Fling. The narrative, laden with a deadly plague and supernatural elements, was both intense and captivating.
The characters in this novel truly brought the story to life. Each character, especially the enigmatic sorceresses Bronwyn and Phaedra, was richly developed and added a fascinating layer to the dark world Quartley created. Their complex desires and emotions made the story more than just a fantasy; it was a deep exploration of the human condition amidst chaos.
However, the unrelenting darkness of the book was at times overwhelming. The constant shadow of doom, while impressively portrayed, sometimes overshadowed the novel’s more subtle nuances. Despite this, Drakomunda stands out for its compelling blend of horror and fantasy, wrapped in a narrative thatโs both complex and deeply human.

“Legends of Heraldale IV: Our Final Act” by Brian McNatt is an absolute delight and a brilliant finale to a series that has been close to my heart since the first book. McNatt’s storytelling prowess truly shines in this installment, blending a richly imagined world, vibrant characters, and a story that had me hooked from the very beginning.
I was completely immersed in the world McNatt created. The vivid descriptions and intricate details made the world of Heraldale feel alive and tangible. Itโs rare to find a book where the setting feels like a character in its own right, but McNatt pulls this off effortlessly. The depth of the lore and the attention to detail in constructing this world are simply breathtaking.
The characters, many of whom we’ve grown to love since the first book, are the soul of this story. McNatt has a way of making each character feel like an old friend, with their quirks, growth, and journeys. Seeing how theyโve evolved over the series and how their stories intertwine in this final act was incredibly satisfying. Itโs like catching up with old friends and seeing how far theyโve come.
The pacing of the book is just perfect. McNatt strikes a brilliant balance, weaving tension and excitement throughout the story in a way that kept me turning pages, yet also allowing space for quieter, more reflective moments. Itโs a rollercoaster ride that had me on the edge of my seat but also gave me moments to pause and soak in the journey.
Overall, “Legends of Heraldale IV: Our Final Act” is a phenomenal read. It’s a book that not only concludes the series with a bang but also reminds me why I fell in love with McNattโs world in the first place. Itโs a heartfelt goodbye to a world and characters that Iโve cherished, and I couldnโt have asked for a more fitting end.

DJanรฉe’s “The Blizzard’s Secrets” is a tantalizing journey into the heart of a dystopian world that feels both eerily familiar and shockingly unique. Set in the ostensibly tranquil community of Taliver, the novella captivates readers right from the outset.
As we follow Daia, a young woman poised to become the Commander of the Forces, we’re quickly drawn into a narrative that is as much about personal growth as it is about political intrigue. DJanรฉe has skillfully painted a character who is fierce, intelligent, and undeniably human. Daia’s evolution from a disciplined apprentice to a leader grappling with profound truths is both believable and inspiring.
One of the novella’s standout features is its intricate plot, rife with unexpected twists and revelations. Just when you think you’ve grasped the depth of Taliver’s secrets, DJanรฉe throws another curveball, keeping readers on their toes and ensuring the pages keep turning.
The theme of “empowering individualism” is beautifully woven throughout the story. Amidst the backdrop of a false utopia and the shadows of deceit, Daia’s pursuit of justice and truth is a testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity. Her journey underscores the importance of questioning, of seeking truth, and of standing up for one’s beliefs even when the path is fraught with danger.
For fans of dystopian tales, “The Blizzard’s Secrets” offers a fresh perspective in the genre. Its concise format makes it an ideal pick for those seeking a compelling story that can be devoured in a single sitting. Yet, despite its brevity, DJanรฉe ensures the world-building is rich, the characters are multi-dimensional, and the plot leaves a lasting impact.
In conclusion, “The Blizzard’s Secrets” is a must-read for anyone who cherishes tales of resilience, intrigue, and the unyielding pursuit of truth. DJanรฉe has crafted a world that is both haunting and captivating, and I eagerly await her next literary venture.

Kijiro by Khalil A. Barnett is a sword & sorcery fantasy novel based on Asian myths & legends and tells the story of Kojiro, a malignant manifestation of a young child, the son of a billionaire archeologist.
This book is so different from the usual fantasy stories that one reads, especially the popular culture Fantasy books, as most of them draw heavily from Greek and/or Roman legends. But this book was a real treat for me because it is based on Asian mythology and being an Asian myself it was so gratifying to read a story about the culture I could, if not entirely being a South Asian, at least partially, relate to way more than the European fantasy plots. I could feel more connected to the story and especially the motivations of the character and the stakes in the story for them.
I loved the author’s writing style โ it had a great flow, making the book seem like a lullaby, albeit dark. The pacing of the novel is spot on and the tension runs tight throughout the story, keeping the readers engaged right from the beginning to the very last page. The concept is phenomenal, the execution fantastic and the overall story extremely captivating and entertaining.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and would highly recommend it to all readers, especially to all Asian readers to explore this amazing gem.

This book is beautifully conceptualised, has a sound foundation and an excellent plot (albeit a bit similar to Superhero). I enjoyed reading the storyline because it had a great flow and felt extremely engaging and exciting. The tension was tight and kept the pacing really strung up through the entire book.
The illustrations are excellent, and I loved them. They could have been a little spread out, giving the book a cleaner look. But apart from this, I did not have any complaints at all. The dialogues were good, and the characterisation felt well-developed. I hope this series continues and we get to read more about Terravitae and the prophesied daughter of Queen Filoli Vitae and King Asim.

The Young by Nicholas John Powter is a unique fantasy novel that will take you on a rollercoaster of a magical emotional ride.
One of the reasons why I really liked this book is because of the unique and very rarely used concept of the sun and moon gods going against each other. And the second reason for having really liked this book is the tricky and complex relationship between a father and son that the author has explored in this book. Both these things set The Young apart from other fantasy novels. I enjoyed how the plot unfolded and how different sub-plots and side characters and their stories and conflicts kept the momentum of the story building, while the relationship between Sven and Fren sees its fair share of ups and downs and well… we get to see an apt demonstration of a realistic development that can only be experienced as the story unfolds.
I’d recommend this book to all fantasy lovers who want to explore a book on a new concept and to those readers who want to explore a title by a new author, especially about the dynamic between a father and a son.
