Plot/Story:

It was not a fast pace read or a slow one, but it had a perfect pace and as a reader (even an adult reader) this was a fun read. This was a very thought off book and the author too the time to show us all that was needed to be shown: Like the magic, it was almost at arm reach. You could see the magic so well and it was undeniable real. This book contains everything a great book needs: A strong character, a villain, magic, strange creatures and many adventures. The story takes on a lots of serious topics as bulling, but Tyler goes through them with optimism and a fun way.

Characters:

Tyler is such a strong and lovable kid and we can all relate to his insecurities. Dirk is the magical alien friend and he tries to help Tyler as much as he can. It reminds me a lot of the invisible friends most of us had as kids and the adventures we took with them.

Romance/Kills:

There is love in the story, but in a very small way. If I will tell you anything more it won’t be a spoiler free.

Writing:

This book is definitely for kids or for people who had kids. As an adult reading this story, I still enjoyed the writing style of the author and the adventures that Tyler had to go through. I love the happiness and joy the author spread all around the book, it was a nice change.

Beginning:

The story begins with Tyler and he sees and feel how alone he is and just then when he wishes he had a best friend, comes Dirk. The beginning really set the mood of the entire story.

Ending:

The ending was a bit sad, but saying goodbye and especially to a kid can be very sad.

Blurb:

The blurb was very inviting and teasing of what yet to come.

Cover Art:

The cover art is very nice, but it lacks a bit. It’s a bit too simple for a kid’s book.

Opening Line: “That looks like a UFO spaceship, with a dome at the top… 11-year-old Tyler Dunsmore lay on the grassy meadow, staring straight up at the puffy, marshmallow-like cumulus clouds above.”

Highlights: I love the adventures a lot, the author wrote them in a very nice way, that made me love the story even more.

Lowlights: None.

Final Thoughts: This is a very light and fun read. If you have kids I assure you they will love this book a lot.
