Ten Books I Almost Put Down But Didn’t

Hi, everyone! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! This weekly event is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Todays topic is Ten Books I Almost Put Down But Didn’t.

I have only Eight books to add to the list will add more if I’ll recall any sometime! Enjoy reading the list and do share your lists or names of books as well in the comments section 🙂

1. The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy

Reason: I thought that it was some cute lil’ book for kids, so I dismissed the idea of reading it (after 5 pages!). But as the time of returning the book to the library was coming near, I was getting more and more curious about this book’s hype. So finally I picked it up again 1 day before I was supposed to return it and completed it the same day.

After-Thoughts: I read it in one go because as I kept reading it I slowly slowly started liking it and by the end I fell in love with this book. I am glad that I read it.

2. The Secret

Reason: This book was recommended to me by my sister-in-law, someone who is not into book-reading, so I thought of it as some lousy self-help book (FYI I hate self-help books!) I issued it as really didn’t wanted to waste my money and also because I didn’t wanted to let her down. I read around 10-15 pages and put it down. Then while the book was still with me I happened to go on vacation and as usual I took all my unread books, The Secret included. When I ran out of books and was lazy enough not to go out and buy one, I thought “What the heck, lets get done with it once and for all!” and so I read it 🙂

After-Thoughts: Life-changing! I am so grateful to my sis-in-law that I read it. I follow it each and every single day!

3. Nights In Rodanthe

Reason: I am not a lover of oldies love-stories, that was the only reason I didn’t want to read this book. But ultimately, being a Nicholas Sparks fan I gave in and got through with it and guess what I survived!

After-Thoughts: It wasn’t that bad, actually if I change my perspective then it was kinda good, but really, I don’t wanna change it, so I was just OK.

4. The Hobbit

Reason: Again I thought it was a children’s book and I should probably gift it to my 13 yr old brother. But I hate giving away my books (no! not even to my bro) and so I read it with no hope at all.

After-Thoughts: It was great! I am really glad I read it, infact I read it 3 times and planning to read it yet again sometime soon.

5. LOTR: Fellowship Of The Ring

Reason: After reading Hobbit I got emotionally attached to Bilbo and as Bilbo was nowhere in the LOTR series I really didn’t want to read it but then I thought that I shouldn’t leave what I started so thought of going ahead with the series.

After-Thoughts: Excellent series! Trust me, you really can’t miss on this series.

6. The Witch Of Portobello

Reason: I put down this book just because I thought it was about some weird witch (duh!). I hate witches, honestly they scare the s**t out of me. That’s the only reason I put it down but what stopped me was the fact that I am a huge fan of Paulo Coelho so I went ahead and read it.

After-Thoughts: It wasn’t what I thought it would be. It was actually great. I absolutely loved it.

7. Game Of Thrones

Reason: I thought that it was a complex war story that will take up the entire year for me to complete the series. But well my cousin, after a lot of efforts, convinced me to read it. And I did complete the series and that too in just 4 months.

After-Thoughts: It’s the best book I’ve ever read. And I loved it.

8. Clash Of The Kings

Reason: Only one reason for putting it down- Eddard (Ned) Stark’s death! I hated George RR Martin for killing such a lovable and stud character. But then after sometime I felt the invisible force from the Clash Of The Kings and with the hope that Robb will take revenge of his father’s death I read on!

After-Thoughts: I am glad I read it 🙂

The only one on this list that I have read is Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy! Have you read the other books in the series yet? I love these books and really owe it to myself to read them again because it’s been a long time… really enjoyable to read!

Hi Jess! I also love Hitchhiker’s Guide, but unfortunately I haven’t read the other books of this series. Are they equally good ???
I guess I should issue them asap!

I can’t remember which book I liked best because, as I said it’s been awhile, like 10 years lol. I remember loving them all though and I got my dad and brother hooked as well! I have friends who have read, and loved them all too so I would say go for it!
