Plot | Story
I really liked the unique dystopian concept and the pace of the story. It has a great number of twists and turns and keeps one guessing all the time. The way the story flows is really good! The plot is extremely well built and keeps you involved all the time. At times it was really hard for me to put it down even for a few hours. I had a hell of a time reading this superb book.
Characters
I was really impressed by the very well-developed character of the main protagonist, Fran. It was super easy to relate to her and to be able to feel all her emotions. The other character that I liked was that of Pete. Both the characters stood out and left a mark on my memory.
Romance
There was just a bit of romance between Fran and Pete, though it never took a solid direction, which for me worked out well as it’s a dystopian story and I hate having to read about romance in dystopian books (except for Hunger Games!)
Writing
Writing style of Heather Letto was remarkably simple, yet effective. I liked it a lot and I’m looking forward to read more books by her.
Beginning
The beginning was a bit slow though from the start I got the feeling that this book won’t disappoint me. Which later proved to be right! Given that it’s a dystopian story, the beginning being slow proved quite effective.
Ending
The ending was awesome! It really did blow my mind! It was unexpected and in a way totally changed the direction of my thinking. I’m eagerly waiting for the next part.
Cover Art
The cover art is really good, though it fails to give a clear idea about what the book is actually about. I guess a bit of a dystopian background would have really added to it’s appeal. Also the model on the cover is far from any character in the book so far, so I feel a bit detached with the book’s concept when I look at it.

Blurb is just perfect. It gives a very clear idea about what to expect from the book.

If you havent yet read the Battle Royale graphic novel, then thats a must especially if you like the Hunger Games. Another graphic novel suggestion would be V for Vendetta by Alan Moore. Set in England under a tyrannical/fascist ruler, a lone hero with a past seeks to overthrow the dictatorship. I know those are graphic novels but they are ever so good. Lemme see, ah yes, The Disposessed by Ursula K. le Guin. A definite must read. As is Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaids Tale. Other things I can think of are Dune by Frank Herbert. Another series that springs to mind is The Broken Empire by Mark Lawrence which starts with Prince of Thorns, this series is quite dark. Hope that is helpful. There is soooo much more but my brain has drawn blank for the minute. Hope you have a good day and enjoy those suggestions 🙂

I’ve started with the Broken Empire. I absolutely loved the first book, Prince of Thorns and I’ve already bought the next two as well 🙂 Will read them for RMFAO Genre Challenge (in the dystopian month along with some of your other reccs.)
And I’ve also started with the Dune series. Done with the first one. will read the sequels soon 🙂

Im so silly. I completely forgot about the (R)evolution series by Stephanie Saulter (The third of which is not out until March/April of this year) the first book is called Gemsigns. Also, Fade To Black by Francis Knight is very good (which is part of a series but really cant remember the name of said series) and also The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, which is absolutely amazing! There are three books in the series that tell the story of Vin but there is also a fourth book (known as the first Wax and Wayne book) which takes place so many years after the Vin’s story. Whats cool about this is that Brandon Sanderson has recently announced two more Mistborn novels, of which I presume will be about Wax and Wayne.
And yes you are in for a few shocks with The Broken Empire. It is very good.

A unique dystopian? I was beginning to think I’d heard of them all. I’m not sure about the ‘beast disease’ thing, but I’m glad you enjoyed it.

It’s just a ruse! It was mentioned only twice in the book (as far as I remember!) This book is truly unique… I can barely stop myself from telling you the entire plot! lol! It’s that good! heheh!
